>In need of help with those more experienced. A mom called today,
>this is her 3rd baby. Always had good production of milk. Has been
>diagnosed Cohn's disease. Baby is one month old. Nurses baby both
>breasts, compresses breast during pauses. Burps baby after feedings.
>Baby is asleep but wakes up after short while under 15 min screaming
>and not satisfied unless she has fed him 2 oz. of formula.
I wonder if she would feel ok simply to put him to the breast again?
She might be helped by knowing that waking up a short while later and
wanting further feeding is *perfectly* *normal* for babies of any age
but especially newborns.
If she gives formula when this happens, she will experience an impact
on her milk supply....and if she has been doing this at every feed
for two weeks, then it could well be that her milk supply is already
compromised - she may now need a 'rescue' plan to ensure her supply
is preserved.
>Never experienced this with other children always over producer.
>Feels let down, also has Reynard's takes Entocort and Prozac only
>medications. Eats lots of fat in diet, Olive oil on salads,
>hamburger and uses margarine or butter. Concerns were that she
>didn't have enough fat in milk to satisfy him.
Fats in her diet will not effect the amount of fat in her milk.
>Has several very wet diapers.
>stools are slowing down to 1 a day or every 2-3 days with big
>stools. She has a good pump and pumped 7 ounces. I asked her to put
>her pumped milk in refrigerator to see if the fat separates to show
>some fat content.
This will not reveal anything useful, though - it's normal for fat in
milk to vary a huge amount - see this study

Hope this helps.
