Respectfully I must take issue with this comment:



If you don't want to mother (nurture) your young, then don't have a baby.
It is unbelievable that a high number of moms in the USA abandon their young
at a very early age (most between 2 - 8 weeks) and go to work without their
babies.  I know the reasons given for that practice, yet the babies did not
ask to be created and abandoned.  If women cannot afford to stay with their
young, then they don't have to conceive them until they CAN afford to take
care of them.



To me, this is a very offensive and unusually harsh comment and while I can
understand the posters point and desire to protect the babies etc., this is
not a reality based comment and serves ONLY to tick off and alienate mothers
who want children, want to nurture but MUST work in order to feed the child,
keep a roof over their head, etc.  I know too many women who suffer deep
depression at the realizations of what it means to leave your child for any
length of time in order to be able to feed it and care for it properly.  I
don't waste my time congratulating those who are able to stay home because
they were able to figure out a way to do it.  They are the lucky ones and
they KNOW it.  I know many mothers who work hard and are fabulous mothers to
their babies - they BF, and nurture and do the best they can and do fine.
Babies have been cared for by others so mom could work for millennia.this
comment is just not OK.



Having money to be able to afford to care for your children is no guarantee
you will take care of your children.  Some of the richest mothers I know
SUCK at nurturing their young - they have nannies for that nasty business of
being close to their babies.  And some of the poorest mothers I know keep
their babies close to them 24/7 any way possible (I was one of these).
Judgments about whether or not one can AFFORD a child are pointless and
frankly, insulting.  There are too many of us on this list who had to work
outside the home, or WANTED <GASP!> to work outside the home and yet were
fabulous mothers.  I could go on with my own history, but I won't.



Lastly, before I abandon my young with people I don't know so they can take
their state mandated testing to prove they know how to read and write, when
will we leave our judgmental attitudes behind and simply acknowledge that
things aren't always black and white?  Yes there are some who don't want
kids and therefore, I agree they shouldn't have them not only for the babies
sakes, but for their own.  But to lump all working mothers into a group who
do not want to nurture their young and therefore abandon them???  C'mon.
