That risk of infection being greater than the risk of not
breastfeeding was what I encountered, too. The ENT wanted to wait
until Simon was 8 months old so he could use anesthesia and sutures
and "do a proper surgery." I openly questioned his logic by asking,
"OK, so infection is your concern, so you want to wait until he's
crawling and putting everything he finds on the floor in his mouth,
rather than do it now when there is just a tiny membrane and the only
thing that goes into his mouth is my breast."
I ended up having to pay out of pocket for a pediatrician about 25
miles away to do the clip. Simon was barely 3 weeks old at the time.
