My firstborn will turn 28 next month.
I am a complete autodidact brestfeeding-wise.
My SIL took my midwife list and crossed all bottle related items: ''you won't be needing these, for you're gonna breastfeed. Take some extra burping cloths instead.'' GP said not to worry about the inverted nipple: "baby will eventually pull it out''. (Hospital nurses gave a cut-off bottle nipple over it and teached me and neighbouring mommy to just clench our teeth these first days). Back home the hospital routines resulted in a crying baby so I ''invented breastfeding on cue''. Never bothered with expressing or pumping because I was a stay at home mom. Not before being pregnant of #2 became I aware of LLL and the wealth of informaton to be shared there. I'm only now weaning myself of LLL ;-) and retiring as a Leader.
Is this about what you're looking for?
Warmly,
Gonneke, IBCLC in southern Netherlands

Those of you whose firstborns are older than 28 or so:
How did you learn to breastfeed effectively? How did you learn to hand express? How did you learn to breastfeed lying down?
