I read the piece a little differently. This mom's experience was so awful she
drowned in it! These are the moms that need the LC to listen sympathetically
and acknowledge their pain. At the end, she did say that she would give b/f a
try if she had another baby. We can step in with education to help her have a
better experience 2nd time around, but only after we have earned her trust. I
often tell mothers I am interacting with that I know how wonderful
breastfeeding can be, but as mother of a tongue-tied son, I know how awful it
can be, too. I don't bore them with my sob story, I just tell them a little to let
them know that even the "pros" have to ask for help and don't nail b/f right
away. I don't think these kind of editorial rants necessitate a response from
our community--we won't change any minds and will probably only sound self-
serving and judgmental to the readers whose experiences are similar to the
moms.
