Good luck with your great idea, Sara.
I am on vacation at the moment and maybe can be inspired to start something
like this again when I return to work. I used to have a "Myth of the
Month" - a one page little poster eg "Breastfeeding mothers can't eat garlic
or spicy foods..."
It was addressed to mothers - but the *real* goal was to educate staff in a
non-threatening way. I addressed topics such fore and hind milk (some
nurses had weird ideas!), frequency and duration of feeds etc. In fact all
the regular questions that mothers asked and the most important "incorrect"
advice given by staff members at that time. References were included at the
end - the paediatricians also read them and said they learned a thing or
two.
It really is hard to change thinking that has been entrenched for many years
and the attitude that perhaps breastfeeding is just not that important!
Thank goodness for the lifeline that LACTNET has become for so many of us!
