From the PlusNews report http://www.plusnews.org/Report.aspx?ReportId=87263 is this little bit of mistakenly "plussed" news:
"The new guidelines encourage HIV-positive mothers taking ARVs to exclusively breastfeed their infants for the first twelve months of life."
Here is a link to the original WHO press release in honour of World AIDS Day (today). It does not encourage "twelve months of exclusive breastfeeding," of course. http://u.nu/37q24
The really exciting bit about this new recommendation is that this may put to sleep the unrealistic recommendation of exclusive short term breastfeeding and abrupt weaning at 4 or 6 months for HIV infected mothers, which has been standard locally. Perhaps we have merely shifted the abrupt weaning date on a few months, and perhaps the medication brings its own problems, but it opens up the options.
