If a mother had herpes lesions on her breast/nipple and therefore direct breastfeeding was contraindicated for a newborn, what would be necessary in order to make expressed breastmilk safe for the infant? Would pasteurisation deal with any virus in the milk? I would guess yes, but would like to hear if any clinicians have done this or have a definitive answer.
