Subject: Decrease in milk production at 7 weeks post partum
Good Morning.
I am looking for some ideas to increase milk production in a mom who was
exclusively feeding pumped breastmilk to her severely ill infant. She has
provided permission to post.
Baby was rehospitalized on 3/25/2009. MOI did not pump 3/25/2009,
3/26/2009. Resumed pumping 5x/24 hrs on 3/27/2009. Increased to 7x/24 hrs
on 3/31/2009. Since 3/31/2009 MOI has pumping 1 1/5 oz for the entire day
and 20 ml or less per session. Yesterday was the first day baby received
only
formula.
Since MOI is currently pumping 7x/24 hrs, I cannot think of anything else to
recommend other than increasing pumping or trying galactagogues such as
fenugreek. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as MOI is motivated to
increase her milk supply.
Thank you!
Angela Hansen, RD, IBCLC
