As my FIRST degree was in Social Work, and I often say my social work degree
is actually much more useful in my IBCLC work than my nursing degree, I
thought I'd provide even more evidence of how important the work we do is to
changing the family dynamics and eventual health outcomes of the families we
serve.
I truly believe in the premise that La Leche League was founded on "good
mothering through breastfeeding" in that breastfeeding is not the goal - it
is the healthy physical and psychological development of the child and
family.
An article I just received is long and you may not want to wade through it
all - the last few paragraphs speak a lot to what we do. I think we can
all look forward to more people "getting it" , especially once Dr. Bruce
Perry's and Maia Szalavitz' book 'Born for Love: Why Empathy Is Essential
and Endangered' comes out. (I have NO financial interest in promoting this
book).
