My husband is a commercial airline pilot and his trips are usually 3-4 days
(2-3 nights). He is not a big fan of airport and hotel food so usually
brings his own food along with him in a small soft-sided/insulated cooler.
Before he leaves for the trip he packs his food using small hard-sided ice
packs and ziplock bags or first aid ice packs (the kind that look like a bag
with a twist off top) using ice from home. The ice and the insulation in
the soft-sided cooler are enough to get him and his food safely to the
overnight hotel. He refills the bag with ice from the hotel's ice machine
each night/morning. Everything stays cool and he's never had a problem with
the eggs, yogurt, cheese or cold cuts he packs spoiling.
The cooler is small enough that it hooks on to his flight bag and he is able
to fit everything in the cockpit.
