Great idea, Pamela! I share your frustration. Even though I do have
physical access to a Medical library at a local university, the travel and
time commitment involved, makes it rather difficult. If ILCA could offer us
access as you suggest, I'm sure membership would increase!

A trained craniosacral therapist would be s good place to start in the case of torticollis.... often the cause is compression of the XI cranial nerve -

Very interesting ed in this mo JHL on "Breastfeeding Promotion for Generations X and Y: Why the old ways won't work". Lots to think about.
At my LLL meeting the other night I had 2 moms, both with problems, one with implants, the other with reduction and baby with TT. Very interesting meeting to say the least!!! They were very into using computer for info, knew the better web sites etc. Mostly I gave reassurance and support. Pat in SNJ

Subject: Exclusive pumping over 1 year
I have this mom's permission to post this to lactnet:
>I'm trying to research the *logistics* of MM for age 1+, but most of
what I
> find online is lactivism about not letting our culture force us to
wean and
> the benefits of MM beyond age 1, etc. This is all important info,
but not
> what I'm looking for.
>
> My questions are more about how much / how often-- that sort of
thing.
She has noticed a slight dip in how much she is pumping but baby has
also decreased her intake of EMM from 6 to 4 ounces per feeding. Any
advice would be very helpful.
Can we make the assumption that baby would take as much EMM as the
typical ABM fed infant of the same age? Is intake a ratio to baby's
weight at this age? Anyone have experience with this?
It takes a special kind of mom to exclusively pump long term. Most of
them make it a year and "hang up the horns" shortly thereafter.
This post made me aware that there is an educational/informational
black hole that needs to be filled. With more women exclusively
pumping long term (either by choice or necessity), these questions may
come up more frequently.

Can we assume this baby is eating a lot of solids and drinking water?
If so....
I don't think we can compare to an ABM fed baby of the same age, since the
ABM fed baby would probably have switched to cow's milk by age 1. My answer
to that mom may seem too vague and flippant, but I would tell her to offer
as much as she is willing/able to pump. Then let the baby decide.

Subject: Re: Exclusive pumping over 1 year
I've had several mothers in my practice pump for babies with clefts or
genetic disorders for well over one year (up to 2 years). The intake of
human milk seems to go down to about half the peak intake (1 month of
age intake) by age 18 mos, and then may stay at about a pint or less a
day for the next 6 months or so.
