Julie, this baby is relatively immature, small, and the tongue-tie wasn't
fixed for several weeks. Needs time to develop strength in the muscles of
the tongue and to get used to its new capacity for milk transfer - remember,
the baby is now able to perform movements that until now have been
impossible. Encourage the mother, let her know that she has already done 95%
of the work needed, i.e. establishing her milk supply and seeing to it that
the baby has been adequately fed until now. Soon, likely by the coming
weekend, she can relax and enjoy the results of all this work. As Jack
Newman always said, babies get good at breastfeeding by breastfeeding; and
as Linda Smith says, babies who CAN breastfeed, WILL.
