I have permission to post from Mom.

I have a mom with an 8mo baby who was diagnosed with Bacterial Meningitis on
February 13, 2009. She has been breastfeeding and formula feeding since
baby was 4 days old. He has frontal lobe damage, deaf etc. She had been
buying from milk banks but it was cost prohibitive so he is now on Alimentum
and BM, now in rehab in NY.
Daily amounts:
Alimentum- 24oz
Hand expressed breastmilk- 0.5oz
Baby foods- small amount increasing with feeding therapy.

She also has a small amount of donor milk left and as he is moving to eating
thin liquids again she was saving it for that since the Alimentum tastes
horrible and he was doing poorly on Similac Early Shield.

Anyway, she asked me from a medical perspective if there is any value at all
to still express that small amount or does the pH of the formula negate any
benefits he would receive from the formula and then she would stop
expressing. She wants an evidence-based answer...

Any answers are greatly appreciated.
