Angela and others might enjoy this moment from a mother support meeting years ago.
I invited a dentist to offer information on early dental care and to answer questions. She had some pretty graphic show and tell on the subject of jaw formation (Dr. Palmer would be pleased) and inevitably someone asked her thoughts on pacifiers. She took a deep breath and said, "As a dentist I'm going to tell you they're not a good idea but as a mother I say whatever it takes!" No one was misled that day and conversation turned for a bit to the balance we all hope to strike in our mothering decisions. There was a definite feeling that we're all in this together, and we are.
