My argument to this would be that it is only a sin if the mother actually
knows that she is doing harm to her baby. Thanks to all of the marketing,
poor advice etc out there, most moms have no idea that there are risks to
not breastfeeding. For many women, formula feeding is seen to be as good as,
if not better than breastfeeding. With alcohol and tobacco, there are likely
very few people who don't know that they are "bad" for you.
I think the "sin" is that of the governments that don't ensure enforcement
of the WHO Code, don't ensure that health care providers have proper
education about breastfeeding, make breastfeeding very difficult by forcing
mothers to be separated from their babies, etc.
