Those of you whose firstborns are older than 28 or so:
How did you learn to breastfeed effectively? How did you learn to hand =
express? How did you learn to breastfeed lying down
My oldest is 40, can't imagine how that happened so quickly! Like others we
just did it, I was a 'mother earth" wanna be and breastfeeding fit right in.
In my breastfeeding experience, I had cracked and bleeding nipples with the
first 3 children until I started to learn more about a deep latch, but we
just hung in there, used a lot of anhydrous lanolin and it eventually got
better. Didn't hand express because I did not have to leave my baby and was
a LLL Leader when I experimented and found out how to do it. Lying down
nursing probably was just a coincidence, attach the baby and scoot down to a
reclining position. I don't think I thought about quitting, it was just a
grin and bear it until it got better and those in the know said it would,
because the quiet times were oh so wonderful and the pain only lasted a few
weeks.
