Thank you, Nancy. I, too, think that corporate lc's can have a big
influence.
That is why it is sad that they don't use it.

Decennia ago, I once had an argument with my father in law. I was a
weekend/parttime worker in the family department store and did not agree
with the way he was moving employees around. Weekend workers often had a
certain department where they were knowledgeable and one at the
DIY-department would not be a good help at the books department or the
underwear department. So, I told my father in law that I disagreed with his
policy of shifting them around like pawns in a play. I recommended better
planning, so that all departments would have a knowledgeable employee during
coffee and tea breaks. He was annoyed, not being used to someone standing up
to him apparently, and even went as far as fetching a chef and wanting that
chef to confirm something. What could the chef do...? Agree with the boss...
or agree with the girl friend of the son of the boss...? Of course he agreed
with my father in law. ;o) Didn't blame him, did blame my fil, though, for
acting like this.
In the evening at the dinner table, my mil said: "You shouldn't do that,
speak up to the boss like that. If you'd be working somewhere else, you'd be
fired." "Fine", I said, "I don't even want to work for someone that insists
on using these kinds of policies." That was not the answer expected, as far
as I remember ;-), but knowing your position and using it in favour of those
with a less safe or influential position, still seems a good thing to me.
"Noblesse oblige", the French say. I *do* think lc's are important to
companies manufacturing and selling bf products, so they would do the
clientele a favour by using that influence and demand ethical marketing.

Warmly,

Marianne Vanderveen (probably run out of posts for today...)
