I saw a 5 mo old yesterday for the first time (had been seen by my
associates before). Very obviously tongue tied. Mom says no problems with
breast or bottle. (mom works days, nurses nights) Nice, appropriate weight
gain. I explained tongue tie to them, they had noticed it :-) Said if it
caused problems later with speech or dental issues we'd take care of it
then. Remember a tongue tied baby whose mom was sore, careful positioning
took care of problem. So there are lots of variations, depending on mom's
breast anatomy and baby's tt, seems to be what causes problems.
I agree that we all probably see a skewed population. As others have said,
years ago it was simply taken care of right after birth with little
fanfare. Today, in medicine, we make a major production out of everything
in the US of A:-( Pat in SNJ
