Head lice are a perennial problem here. Co-sleeping mummies are often itchy
(why o why do the daddies seem to escape??). This link above takes you to
the James Cook University's evidence-based information on the control of
headlice. A number of the products available to treat headlice in the US
are not available in Australia. They have not been approved by our
Therapeutic Goods Administration for this use. (Since headlice are just
annoying and don't cause morbidity or mortality, they didn't feel that the
risks were justifiable.) Also we have an increasing problem with chemical
resistance.
We battled headlice for the better part of 4 years. The only cure was cheap
conditioner (the ones you get by the litre) a good metal lice comb with long
tines and plenty of patience. I am not sure that Dr Hale or Dr Nice have
rated conditioner and patience but I am sure they would put them into the L1
category.
Cheers
