One other side note -
*If* mom is on strict measures of intake/output, provide mom with a pumping log to monitor her colostrum/milk output. This will help everyone - the lactation staff gets a sense of how often/how much she is pumping, the RN's caring for her get a sense of what she is putting out to help keep mom's fluid balance good (and maybe calorie needs as well), and mom/family get a sense of accomplishment - see what I am producing, even in great stress etc... and of course who's the big winner? baby!
Best wishes to you helping a very ill mother through a crazy, difficult time.
:)
Sara Munday, RN (eagerly awaiting October 16th!)
