Hello! I wrote last week about a couple I have been seeing. They
delivered by c/sec, after a failed induction, in LA, at because their
unborn had a suspected non-functioning kidney. She took a five day
course of Percocet, two capsules every four hours starting from her
immediate post-op period. After she got back to SLO, she got a
second five day Rx from her local OB and took a second five day
course, also two caps every four hours. Within 24 hours of her last
dose she suffered immediate anxiety and crying jags which was very
unlike her. It was her darling psychiatrist husband who figured out
what was going on. They consulted one of his colleagues who
confirmed the sweating, nausea, vomited, diarrhea, and dilated pupils
as narcotic withdrawal. They offered her one dose of a synthetic
narcotic plus two doses of Atavan. She was better right away. This
absolutely blew my socks off! I can't imagine how many other moms
have experienced this and never got a diagnosis and treatment.
