Am reading some old posts re: April 1st hoopla and found this thread on
tongue-sucking.
Not long ago, I assisted a mother and babe/baby was tongue-sucking
consistently, had never been supplemented with expressed milk or artificial
baby milk, was significantly below birth weight when we met, one wet diaper
and no stool in the preceding 24 hours. Latched very quickly, transferred 0.1
ml in 20 minutes, kept sliding down on tip of nipple, had never had a pacifier or
any other artificial nipple by report. After ineffective responses to suck-
training, etc., baby transferred beautifully with nipple shield - - mother had
experienced copious onset of her second milk/transitional milk by then.
