One element that has sprung to my eyes with a 'bong' during the recent
discussions... is that geographical location appears to play in part in
how often people are identifying significant tongue ties. (Significant
in impact to breastfeeding, that is.)

Anyone posting from Africa, for instance, is saying there isn't much of
a problem! (Apologies if I missed you from Africa, saying there was.)

Apart from the excellent points made about pollutants.. I've often
wondered if tongue tie appeared more often in certain populations, from
previous environmental, or gene pool, factors.

Perhaps as this discussion continues, we might refer where experience
has been gained, and what the cross section of population is like?

If there is a strong genetic link with tongue tie, even allowing for
Jennifer Tow's excellent point about environment also playing a part on
how the genes express themselves... surely we will have some populations
with much higher incidences, especially in a resource rich areas, where
there was enough 'alternate' foods on hand, to feed any baby past
imminent starvation, and thus pass the genetic parcel onwards. (I'm
thinking here about the condensed milk/karo syrup thread of yore!)

Just a thought!
