Well, not only the protein passes into the milk. The antigens that the mother's body creates
as a result of her own allergic response will also pass into her milk. The other thing is that while
mom might experience less gastric upset with fermented cow milk products, as well as with raw
products, this does not mean the baby is not being exposed to the protein. If mom has a leaky gut,
she has a leaky gut. I tell mothers who are eliminating cow milk to do 100% elimination always.
Often when moms do partial elimination, they are just making things worse--the baby continues
to be exposed and irritated and eventually he is having significant symptoms, but since mom
thinks she already eliminated cow milk, she often thinks her milk is the problem. Complete
elimination gives a clearer answer on cow milk, but there are lots of other allergens as well.
