Well, I'm in such good company....my oldest also turns 28 this year (and
just called me about leaving milk in a bottle for her two week old while
she and the 2-1/2 yr old do laundry, sigh)...
I learned to breastfeed from watching my girlfriend Susan.I can remember
being at her house with a newborn and she said, "Oh, she wants to eat, turn
around and get her on and when you turn around I'll see if I can see
anything, and then you can nurse anywhere." Thank you Susan!! I am very
dyspraxic and learned sidelying by going to a LLL meeting when Phoebe was
six months old. I remember the nurse in the hospital saying "You look like a
pro!" - the only help I got - sore nipples and all! -- and now I find that I
say the same thing when I walk into a room. I do however help moms "fine
tune" -- they like that wording, and I use the same words no matter what the
latch looks like!
I learned to express by reading about it in The Womanly Art, although I
always had the best luck when I hand expressed with a wide mouthed highball
glass - I placed the lower half of my breast on the rim and pressed and
whoosh. Amazing I didn't hurt myself - I just got lots of milk!
