We've just had a mainstream main news item on the scandal in China. It
just leaves me speechless, that as a race, we can so distance ourselves
from our own nature.
One Mum, holding her baby in her arms, outside the children's hospital,
says she doesn't know what to feed her baby now. The brands that have
been contaminated, were the most expensive and 'best' brands in China.
A father restates this exact sentiment, in the next interview.
These parents feel betrayed, as they bought the 'best brand', and if you
can't trust the 'best brand' what can you do? There is a strong feeling
that it's not like they bought the cheap stuff....
Can't understand how we've sunk so low... or rather, we've been
glamorised and product placemented into such a low state. There was a
programme about a conjoined twin in India last night, who had two faces
on her head, but was otherwise totally 'normal'. At six weeks, she was
losing weight, and it was a 'concern'. We saw the family, poor
villagers, washing out the feeding bottle with their hands under a cold
tap. The formula mix was very weak looking, and the father used his
finger to swirl around the contents a bit before putting on the teat.
He was in the street, using a communal tap.
Somedays, I just despair. What are we allowing to be done to us! What
are we doing to ourselves!
