I worked w/ a new 1st time mom today who is doing fine on day 2 with
breastfeeding her baby, but had a question I was not sure of how to answer.
Mom has no allergies, but Dad is severely allergic to chicken. He keeps
an Epi pen with him at all times and has immed, severe symptoms even if the
food he is eating was prepared on the same cutting board, etc. as chicken.
He also has numerous other food allergies, just not as severe a
reaction.
Moms question is: should she avoid chicken and his other problem foods
"in case" baby has Dads allergies???
Thank you, Loretta Haycook, RN, IBCLC
