Thanks Angela,

Absolutely - as soon as we recognized that in both moms i advised them
about the usual ways that we know of to help the baby out, including 'block'
feeding. This is something that i see in my practice quite a lot, actually.

In my haste to wrap up my rather long post, i glossed over that fact. From
reports from both moms, they had both been diligent on one-sided feeding,
and both observed subtle changes in behavior and gassiness, and again, less
froth. Interestingly, both moms reported this just days before the second
round of bad, bloody stools.

In my practice, i have seen my share of moms with food issues, babies with
icky stools, including blood, and thru the years, i believe i have done well to
keep current with our recommendations (except for the bovine, which was a
new one for me this year, oy vey!). Anyway, it is the recurring blood that had
me scratching my head. Either moms in the past did not report that event, or
it just didn't happen to my clients. Or, my age is catching up with me? ;)

Jennifer, i love reading your posts; they are always thought-provoking. I do
tend to agree with many of your observations, and i think the second mom
and i will have a conversation today and we may re-visit a few topics!

Thanks again for your insights,

Alicia Burgett, IBCLC
