While I have great respect for Dr. Hale and his intention to assure that women are not forced to wean their babies due to use of medications, I have to wonder why anyone would ask a pharmacist, rather than an herbalist, about the safety of herbs. The truth is that many of the drugs that are considered "safe" have very little evidence as to their safety either. What herbs do tend to have is historical use that often dates to hundreds if not thousands of years. We have no such evidence for the safety of drugs. That does not mean that I think herbs cannot be used incorrectly or that they cannot do harm. It simply means that we need to ask the right questions of the right people.
