Good evening,
First of all I want to apologize for my poor English as I am not an English
speaker.
I have an important question for you wise people.
My daughter gave birth about 9 days ago to a sweet little girl in a normal
delivery on week 40, weight of the baby was 3065 KG and apgar score was
9,10.The baby was born with a tongue tie grade 3.She refused to nurse in the
delivery room( I was there with her). She have started to nurse a bit after 8
hours but did more on the second day.It was not so easy for her to take the
breast but after many tries she took it and stared to nurse with not much
pains although the short frenulum.
In the beginning, the right breast was her favorite and he produced more milk,
then she was chosen the left side and one day she refused to the right and
my daughter didn't pump from the right all day as she thought she will return
to it.
It was on day 3rd after birth.
As she continued to refuse this side I have told her to pump with a Lactina
pump and the milk started to come out but not in a big amount. Her breasts
were full but not an engorgement. This was on day 4th the day she came
home.
The amount didn't grow and a day later the girl have stared to nurse from that
side too, so I told my daughter to nurse from that side and to pump after
nursing. When she is nursing there she is doing that for about 5-10 minutes
and then she is falling asleep, when she is pumping after nursing there is
about 10ml.
The left side is full of milk and she is gulping from there for about 20-30
minutes. She has enough wet and dirthy diapers and she is gaining weight, she
got almost on day 9th to her birth weight.
I have told my daughter to start with the right side but it is always the same,
starting to nurse slowly and then falling asleep.
It is now the 4th day that she is nursing from there and pumping with no
improvement.
I forgot to mention an important thing, she had a frenotomy 3 days ago and
her tongue is free now.
Any advice plese? my daughter is starting to get tired and despaired.
Can I do something more?I don't want to give her fenugreek as her left side
will be engorged.
I am waiting for ideas.
Thanks in advance,
Liora Levin, RN,midwife, IBCLC Israel.
