Nikki asked for input regarding bed sharing - in the government hospital
that I work at the postnatal moms and babies bed share most of the time.
The mothers are given cots but most of them bed share culturally and because
we are a baby friendly hospital and bed sharing is encouraged by most of the
staff.
Phyllis asked about a mom on Magnesium Sulphate, CS and pain relief - again
the baby stays with the mother, skin to skin either beside her in the bed or
on top of her chest. Cots are discouraged as the mom can't reach the baby.
Our beds do not have side rails. We have had one incident but the mom was
very ill and the baby should have been put in a cot. Other than that the
moms and babies bed share.
Much easier to manage and no crying babies!!
