Ameda does make multiple size breast shields for their pumps, Ameda is
Code compliant, and their parent company Evenflo has become WHO Code
compliant under the guidance of NABA and Marsha Walker.
The lactation folks at Lansinoh labs are trying to influence Pigeon into
Code compliance, but have not yet been successful.
And we can sell Medela products (I still use some of their feeding
devices when they are the best choice for my clients), but we should not
help to market (advertise, display, promote) them.
What disappoints me most about Medela's actions is their positioning of
breast milk as a PRODUCT, which puts us in jeopardy of losing the
process of BREASTFEEDING. It's one thing to acknowledge that with our
culture, mothers can not always be with their babies, and another to
make it seem that only the milk is important. I think this is even more
important than showing nipples on their packages.
BTW, is there anyone else who thinks Medela's latest nipples/teats are
far too long? I've been seeing more babies having difficulty going back
and forth between breast and bottle when their mothers are using the
newest Medela nipples...
