I agree with the other Lacnetters who have answered this posting. Pregnant women under 37 weeks and nursing mothers whose babies are totally breastfed are usually advised not to fast - there is always a tidal wave of births post-Yom Kippur in Israeli hospitals, women over 37 weeks whose labours have been precipitated by fasting.
This Fast is 25 hours without drinking, but nevertheless some of the haredi women do fast but stay at home in a cool house to conserve energy. However others feel that attending synagogue is an essential part of the spiritual experience of this Day of Atonement.
It is true that different rabbis say different things.
If a woman does fast, she should prepare by eating complex carbohydrates and drinking plenty of fluids before the Fast, avoiding coffee or very salty or over-spiced foods .
