We've stopped using percocet for breastfeeding moms post cesarean because of
the chance of somnolent babies. Interesting that we "always" used it and a
friend of mine called me after her third baby because he was so
sleepy....she was taking percocet, could that be it....of course not! (But
now I'm sure it was, he was her third and I"m sure he was getting lots of
colostrum into his quite-little self.) We've also taken a good look at our
narcotics post-cesarean because of those "ultra-rapid codeine metabolizers".
There are SO many other choices for pain meds these days.
It's one of the nice things about having a hospital small enough that our MD
Dept meetings are called "The OB-PEDI meeting" and they complain if the
nurses don't come!
By the way - I have given up on arguing with nurses about redheads. They
have post partum hemorrhages and sore nipples. It is God's New England
Yankee truth.
Maybe in my next life.
Dawn Kersula - actually quite happy in Vermont!
