Karleen - The interesting thing is how easy it would be for Medela to become
Code compliant. In meeting with some Medela reps, we have discussed how to
accomplish that. All Medela has to do is stop advertising (to the
consumers) their bottles for bottle-feeding and just advertise them for
STORING pumped breastmilk; Medela would also have to stop advertising their
bottle nipples directly to the consumers. I don't understand why the
company is digging in its heels about that; most of its money is made
through pump rentals and pump sales, plus a few other items to help with
breastfeeding.
For Pete's sake, Medela can do the ethical thing, make the global lactation
community happy, and help support breastfeeding. That is what Medela has
done in the past and can do again without any problem.
