How are the other people noticing the odor: does the mother's breath
or body smell of garlic or only her milk? Does the baby carry any
odor (garlic-milk-breath?) after nursing? If the odor is truly only
in her milk then I would suspect something is amiss. If it is on her
body as well, then it makes more sense to look at what she is eating.
Any supplements or medication? Strongly flavored foods such as
certain flavors of snack crackers or chips might have an effect.
If the baby doesn't mind whatever is causing the odor, and all else
seems fine, then it probably is fine. If they are only noticing the
odor in expressed milk, then an easy solution is to stop expressing.
This does seem like an unusual situation though and I would be alert
for s/s of infection. I've never heard of a mother having a garlic
odor in the absence of eating garlic.
