Dear everyone
Thank you very much to all of you who responded to my question about
whether a dehydrated baby could still have good urine output. The
replies have all been very varied, and extremely interesting. Thanks
to those who sent in excerpts of articles and links. Opinion seems
to still be a bit conflicting, but every clue helps! I've collected
quite a lot of info now, including several helpful articles about how
to facilitate breastfeeding in the first couple of weeks from past
issues of JHL. The major conclusion that's coming through is that
hypernatraemic dehydration should never happen if new mothers
received the help and follow-up that should be the normal standard of
care in the first 2-3 weeks and/or until breastfeeding has become
well established.
Thanks so much!
Pamela
