Hi Laura,
I don't often post here but I have a few thoughts for you for the mother's
groups idea. I'm assuming that since you are looking at it from the
pediatric side, you are already getting moms who've made their decision and
are breastfeeding (or not). To me, that means you are looking to go further
with support past those early weeks.
I'm not sure what part of CT you are in but I'd start by finding out what is
already out there and how that is working. Are there LLL meetings in the
area that have good attendance? (are they AM or PM for instance)
http://www.lllusa.org/CT/CT.html Are they getting moms who can walk or do
they need transportation to their meetings?
Do the local area hospitals already have bfing support groups for new moms?
Do moms go to the hospital or meet at an outside location (I've seen both
ways)? Are moms utilizing that resource - sometimes the answer is as
simples as the fact that the meetings are held during "nap time"? How do
you draw them to your group at another time/location, etc. especially if one
is free and yours charges a fee?
Also, I now live in SC, but lived in PA where they had another organization
also running meetings along the same line.
http://www.nursingmothersalliance.org/ They did bring in guest speakers on
related topics. Are there other organizations out there or LC practices in
CT running these meetings too? I lived in NY and had my son in Danbury but
hadn't heard of any others but LLL there at the time.
Good luck.

Also, any thoughts on how to start a mother's group?? Do you do weekly,=20=
monthly? Do you schedule specific topics of interest, ie. going back to =
work=20
and pumping. If you have guest speakers or special topics, would you=20
consider charging a small fee and offering refreshments, etc. I have lot=
s of=20
ideas, however, don't really know how to implement them. How do you=20
advertise.
