Yes, formula is a medicine (medical food). I tell moms it's like the choice of 
giving sleeping pills to a baby who won't sleep well. It has its obvious 
disadvantages but it will do the job and most babies will survive it (and no I've 
never recommended that, it's just a good analogy as most chagrin at that 
thought, though they'd give antihistamines for other reasons).
