This is my first time posting. I'm a fairly new LC and trying to learn everything
that I can. I've been excitedly reading all of the posts on here. I would like
to confirm something that I've believed to be true about milk supply. I have
had mothers call me with concern about decreased milk supply because they
have noticed the breasts feel less full. I explain that a decrease in breast
fullness alone does not mean that supply has decreased. I then discuss
weight gain as well as adequate wet and stool diapers as better indicators of
milk production and infant's milk intake. Is there cause for alarm at all when
mother notices a decrease in breast fullness? Is there a normal time period for
this? It seems to be more common after the first few weeks. Is this because
there is less milk stored in the breast or because of decreased swelling and
decreased fluid retention in the breast? Thanks in advance for any replies.
