Dear colleagues:
I want to let you know that my chapter, "The impact of traumatic childbirth on health through the undermining of breastfeeding," is finally on its way to publication. The book in which it will appear is called, "Trauma and Physical Health: Understanding the Effects of Extreme Stress and of Psychological Harm" (http://www.routledgenursing.com/books/Trauma-and-Physical-Health-isbn9780415480796). The book has had an extremely long publication process as the original publisher was bought out by Routledge midway. My chapter is based on original qualitative research on the topic, with numerous excerpts from women's real experiences interspersed throughout.
Cheryl Beck's newly published research (http://www.advance.uconn.edu/2008/081020/08102009.htm) confirms my findings that mothers can either be so overwhelmed by the impact of a traumatic childbirth experience that their ability to breastfeed is undermined or they become determined to breastfeed so that "something will go right". Beck's important study is not cited in my chapter as its publication post-dates my chapter submission.
I am currently nomail from Lactnet on extended maternity leave with my adopted daughter, so if you'd like me to see a reply, please carbon copy me at [log in to unmask]
