Hi All,
If we take all other 'stuff' out of the mix and look at the fact that
breastmilk and the physical act of breastfeeding give babies brains optimal
brain development then I think the point is made. Optimal development is
what (one would think) we all want for our babies. I don't think that it is
breastmilk makes them smarter or adds IQ points or that ABM takes away IQ
points.I think it is breastfeeding/breastmilk gives optimal development
possible and ABM and bottles do not. We all know the gifted child who was
ABM fed.
Now if we could just get this information out to the general public in a
manner that helps them to open their eyes to this little snippet of
information.I do a monthly talk at Babies R Us and I discuss this topic
every time. The parents are so surprised by this - why? Because they have
grown up hearing how "X was fed formula and he is gifted and fine," and that
ABM is the norm. Hearing how the simple (most of the time) act of
breastfeeding until at least 21 months of age (who was it who discusses the
neural-pathway development of the brain??? My brain is dead this morning.)
gives the child the optimal brain growth gets them thinking in a manner they
hadn't before. They all hear about the health benefits.but this is a new
one for them.
My thoughts this morning.
Warmly,
J
