Julie - Your post made me feel very sad and angry with the situation. No
one has the right to be sarcastic and rude like that to anyone; it is
disrespectful. Unfortunately, in the healthcare system, one of the reasons
why it happens is because of the pecking order. A FEW MDs think they can do
that to women whom they deal with in their work; they do it to clients and
to professionals, such as RNs and LCs. What can we do about that kind of
behavior? We should be able to expect better. In a respectful way, we can
face them and discuss that their behavior was offensive; that colleagues
should be able to discuss topics respectfully, even if there is
disagreement. If it cannot happen face-to-face, then a firm and respectful
letter can be written. We might even suggest that an apology is called for.
That allows us to blow off steam even if there is no response from the
offensive person. We need to empower each other or the offensive person
will become more emboldened and will repeat the rude behavior. I'm jumping
off my soapbox at this point; this really got to me.
Here's another thought: If several LCs alerted the drug company about the
misuse of Depo, especially if the woman is breastfeeding, the company might
put a warning on its label. Then the MDs might be concerned about
liability. What do you think?
Warm regards,
Lee
