Kris,
I work in a children's hospital where this occurs, frequently. We have a hand-
out which is available on our intranet (any staff member can access). I can
send you a copy if you'd like. It's titled "Rapid Weaning"

Subject: How a pumping mom is to wean after her baby dies in NICU
I just had a mom who has been pumping for almost 6 months for her baby i= n
NICU. He was born at 24 weeks and IUGR, multiple problems, off and on =
feedings. He died today, sadly. I spoke with this mom last week and she = was
still pumping and had a decent supply. =
Do any of you with NICU's have a way you deal with this situation, a han=
dout for the nurse to give the mom? (because a lactation consultant is n= ot
always available when this happens-and it is not always the first con= cern
when a baby dies)
If anyone has a handout they would like to share, that would be great. I did
search the archives but did not come up with anything.
