I am an IBCLC and mom to eight.
I have been EP-ing since 9 Feb due to baby Joseph's tongue
tie/thrust/inability to transfer milk.
I received great support from fellow Lactnetters and it was through them
that I got connected to Dr. MaryAnn O'Hara of Seattle Breastfeeding Medicine
and OT/IBCLC Lynne Wolff of Seattle's Children's Hospital Regional Medical
Center.
We tried SNS, Lact-Aid, CST, chiropractic, fenugreek, blessed thistle,
frenotomy X2, you name it. I started out with trying to re-build a supply
that had dropped to 8 ounces/day by pumping every two hours. I am now down
to pumping five times/day and I produce ~32 ounces/day.
I have been blessed to have wonderful fellow IBCLCs in our rural community
who did home visits and who have been extraordinarily supportive. My
biggest supporter has been my spouse followed by the online support group
for EPing moms. IME, there is a difference in terms of support needed
between moms who choose to pump (if returning to work, working full-time or
expressing for convenience reasons) and moms who have no other choice if
they desire their babies to get MOM (thinking cleft palate babies, for
example)
