Sam said about her last clinical rotation on OB:
And it was fantastic! I got a really, truly, breastfeeding mother! Out of
the 30-40 babies born during my rotation, there were only 4 breastfeeding
babies, including one who had never gone to breast. Today, I got a mother
who was really breastfeeding

Sam, my friend, where on earth are you taking your OB rotation that you only
had an 11% breastfeeding rate? That is unreal!! Methinks you need to go
back there after you graduate and...and....and....words fail me as to what you
could do there. My goodness!! I've loved (?) your stories over this
rotation, particularly those that involve trying to be polite to your instructors
that know so much less than you do. You've done an amazing job there, and I
trust you have made an impact.
What a gift to Lactnet (and to the LC world) to have an IBCLC who is going
through nursing school.
My eldest, who is now a nurse practitioner, went through her nursing
program, and would report what her instructors told her. I also read her nursing
text (can't remember which one it is now, but even in 1995 it was sorely
outdated). I then had the opportunity to teach several OB rotations in her school
of nursing (same one I graduated from a bazillion years ago) a 2 hour
breastfeeding class.
I talked very very fast.
Jan Barger, RN, MA, IBCLC, FILCA -- Who is wondering what in the HECK all
Winnie's initials mean. I truly do know IBCLC, RN, BSN, LLLL, MOM....but the
rest of them? Gosh -- maybe initials need to be limited to something
recognizable. (If you don't know FILCA, you haven't been reading the ILCA Globe!!)
