Hi all,
According to Buddhist tradition, the mother of Siddhartha Gautama, the
Buddha, died either at his birth or a few days afterward. The baby Siddhartha
would have been wet-nursed.
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama was breastfed. His younger brother, who is
on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin, was interviewed in the spring
of 2007 by Terry Gross on the NPR program Fresh Air. He said that one
advantage of not being the Dalai Lama is that he got to nurse longer than his older
brother did.
Warmly,
Carol Kelley
