Here is easy way to keep everything straight:
IBLCE is the group that administers the IBCLC certification exam.
You MUST pass the exam to call yourself IBCLC.
Once you are an IBCLC, you MUST follow the [mandatory] Code of Ethics, which
is adminstered by IBLCE through its Discipline Cmte. Any questions
regarding the Code of Ethics should be directed to IBLCE.
You also MUST follow the IBLCE Scope of Practice for IBCLCs, which defines
the boundaries of our practice area (based on the Clinical Competencies for
IBCLCs)
Once you are an IBCLC, you SHOULD join the professional association: ILCA.
You also SHOULD follow the Standards of Practice for IBCLCs, issued by the
professional association.
