I am so appalled by what I see going on... Maybe I am doing the wrong thing
here..but here is what i suggested to the Babies R-us at my small town. I had
once done an inservice for Medela for the store and for any new moms. I was
reimbursed for it. So, I have offered to educate the clerks who work with
pumps and nipple shields and all the rest, free of charge. Why? Because I
don't want moms to end up quiting breastfeeding because of bad advice. I
know I cant change the world or all the BRS's but in my corner of the world I
have offered to try to help. If they don't take me up on it, I will pursist a bit
more than I am going to call my local Medela rep. I had no idea it was as bad
as the scenerio you described, but whenever I go in I first pretend not to
know anything then end up educating whoever was trying to help me. Let me
state that I live in a fairly small town and the store I am referring to is only
trialing the rental stuff. They have 5 pumps to rent. I really want them to
know what they are getting into. To my surprise, they admitted they felt
(managers I spoke with) it was a bit over their head and said they would bring
up what I said at the next staff meeting. They also said they didn't want a
mom to do anything wrong and they felt they did not get a indepth inservice
with Medela. humm, at least they were honest. I will let you all know if they
take me up on my offer of free inservices.
Do you think I am making a mistake by doing this?
TIA,
